Robert Lindsay to star as Scrooge with London Musical Theatre Orchestra

First Published 4 October 2017, Last Updated 24 April 2020

Robert Lindsay will return to the role of Scrooge as the London Musical Theatre Orchestra’s spectacular concert version of A Christmas Carol returns to the West End this festive season.

Following the Orchestra’s critically acclaimed production last year, the Charles Dickens classic gets the full Broadway treatment by the award-winning team of Alan Menken (Beauty And The Beast / The Little Mermaid / Aladdin), Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime / Seussical) and Mike Ockrent (Crazy For You / Me And My Girl).

A Christmas Carol will play two performances at the Lyceum Theatre at 7.30pm on 11 and 18 December, with full casting to be announced soon.

The joyous musical extravaganza A Christmas Carol ran for ten years at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where The New York Times called it “a tonic for adults, and for children a transfixing journey”.

Lindsay has appeared in numerous stage productions during his career, starring in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Me And My Girl (winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Musical and the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical), The Cherry Orchard and The Three Musketeers, and more.

Founder Freddie Tapner said: “I’m enormously excited to return to the Lyceum Theatre with Robert as our Scrooge. This musical adaption of A Christmas Carol contains some of my favourite Alan Menken tunes – A Place Called Home, Christmas Together and the hilarious Mr Fezziwig’s Annual Christmas Ball – and to perform them with the full London Musical Theatre Orchestra will be a total thrill. To my mind, it’s the ultimate family Christmas treat.”

Tickets can be purchased through the London Musical Theatre Orchestra website.
