Enda Walsh’s The New Electric Ballroom receives its London premiere at the Riverside Studios from 3 to 29 March.
The New Electric Ballroom centres on three sisters living in a remote fishing village in Ireland, who suffer the emotionally stultifying effects of small-town life. Trapped in the years that have passed since their halcyon days at the New Electric Ballroom, the sisters are obsessed by darker memories of something resembling romance.
The play was well-received at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year and comes to London following a run at the Perth International Arts Festival in February.
This production is directed by the playwright for the Druid theatre company, which also produced Walsh’s last play The Walworth Farce – a companion piece to The New Electric Ballroom – for the National Theatre last year. Walsh’s other works include Chatroom, also at the National Theatre, Small Things at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Bedbound at the Royal Court.
The cast of The New Electric Ballroom comprises Rosaleen Linehan, Ruth McCabe, Mikel Murfi and Catherine Walsh.
