First performed at Chichester Festival Theatre in July 2021, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific is back for 2022 at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

It’s been over 70 years since the original production which highlights issues of race, class, and gender, and this is a stunning revival of the classical musical.

The songs by the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein are familiar and beautifully orchestrated. We forgot how many well-known songs there are from this show, like Some Enchanted Evening and I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, among many others that you’ll know and love.

The show features amazing vocals accompanied by a full orchestra, with stand-out performances from the show’s leads, Julian Ovenden as Emile De Becque, Gina Beck as Ensign Nellie Forbush, and Rob Houchen as Lt. Joseph Cable.

The songs are accompanied by gorgeous choreography by Ann Yee, with a high-energy ensemble cast that keeps you entertained throughout. Although it is set during World War II, there is a tropical setting, making it a great show to watch this summer with stunning lighting design.

It’s also worth noting that Sadler’s Wells is a beautiful, modern, spacious venue, with lovely bar areas and plenty of aircon, so it is the perfect theatre to visit this summer!

South Pacific plays until 28 August at Sadler’s Wells, so make sure to get your tickets now! Plus, it’s a great show for teenagers, so you can make it a family day out if you buy tickets in Kids Week!
