Michael Jackson theatrical concert extravaganza Thriller Live has extended its West End run to September 2016.
Tickets for the new booking period, which has added a further five months to its long-running residency at the Lyric Theatre, will go on sale on Thursday.
The hit show celebrating Jackson’s incredible career and musical creations opened in 2009 and has been entertaining fans of the legendary pop star ever since.
Featuring a host of hits from the late singer’s early career as part of The Jackson 5 and tracks from his final albums, Thriller Live combines performances from more than 20 performers with video footage to bring to life Jackson’s legendary story.
The success of the show has now spread across the world, with productions playing worldwide taking more than $150million globally at the box office.
Speaking about its huge success, producer Paul Walden said: “This is proof positive that the music of Michael Jackson is still one of the hottest tickets on the planet. We are privileged to continue his musical legacy in Thriller Live, and to have taken it to theatres, concert halls and arenas in 32 countries around the world.”
While Walden paid tribute to everyone involved in contributing to the production’s popularity to date, he also explained the show is “not resting on its laurels”, saying: “A brand new version of the show, with four new songs, a new opening, new production elements including new video, new costumes and special effects opens a 10-month UK and international tour in Blackpool this week and will premiere on Thursday 8 October in the West End… With all these changes we aim to once again set the bar high in terms of what a West End audience will see, hear and experience.”
Thriller Live is choreographed and directed by Gary Lloyd, and was originally conceived and created by Jackson’s long-time associate Adrian Grant.
