Theatre company Horla presents its version of the classic children’s tale Little Red Riding Hood at the Cannizaro Festival in Wimbledon for three performances this July.
Suitable for anyone over the age of eight, Little Red Riding Hood & Other Tales gives a twist to the story of the hooded youngster who finds a wolf masquerading as her granny, and asks how does a little girl find a way to outsmart a big bad beast?; who is the wolf and how does he acquire a taste for human flesh?; and what makes him so ravenous that he thinks he can manage a tough old grandma and a plump young lady with attitude?
To answer these questions, the audience follows Red Riding Hood on her perilous journey to grumpy granny’s place, through a forest that looks big on the outside but shrinks when she sets foot in it. So much so that the young girl has to watch her step or she will trespass on the land of a Russian witch one minute and trip over an Italian vampire’s coffin the next. It turns out the wolf is not the only creature who considers Red Riding Hood to be a tasty morsel…
A producer of family theatre for nine years, Horla’s recent family shows include A Christmas Carol and Grimms – The Final Chapter, which played at Trafalgar Studios.
