Kids Week 2014 has got off to a record-breaking start with a staggering 85,336 tickets sold within the first 24 hours of the kids go free campaign going on sale.
Marking an incredible 77% year-on-year increase, this is the third year Kids Week has successfully smashed its first day sales’ records proving just how popular the annual festival that encourages families to discover the magic of theatre has become over its 14 year history.
Now running for the whole month of August, Kids Week offers a free child’s ticket for every adult ticket purchased for participating shows, plus the opportunity to purchase up to a further two children’s tickets half-price.
The good news for those who have yet to take advantage of the brilliant scheme is there are still more than 50,000 tickets available for performances from 1 to 31 August for more than 30 top London shows and allocations will be topped up over the summer months.
Celebrating today’s momentous news, Julian Bird, Chief Executive of Kids Week organisers the Society of London Theatre, said: “I am delighted Kids Week has achieved such robust figures in the first day of sales alone, with an incredible year-on-year growth. The London theatre industry really gets behind Kids Week to offer unrivalled opportunities for children to take centre stage every August, often giving them their first experience of the magic of live theatre.”
Echoing his sentiments about the campaign’s ability to offer children an unparalleled first taste of theatre, including many exclusive activities and workshops that allow young people the chance to take a peek behind the curtain, Simon Presswell, Managing Director of Ticketmaster UK who support the campaign, commented: “We are very proud to support Kids Week and it’s fantastic to know that so many young people are being given the opportunity to experience theatre this summer.”
