Rambert Dance Company is holding a family matinee at Sadler’s Wells on Saturday 17 November as part of its next visit to the Islington venue.
The special 14:30 matinee includes performances of two works from Rambert’s latest programme – Christopher Bruce’s 1987 work for three dancers, Swansong, and a new piece by Australian Dancer Theatre Artistic Director Gary Stewart, Infinity – and the chance to see dancers during their daily pre-performance exercise sessions, as well as an explanation of the pieces by Rambert Artistic Director Mark Baldwin.
Baldwin commented: “These lecture/demonstrations are led by myself in an easy and relaxed manner that everybody can understand and enjoy. As an audience member you will meet some of the dancers and get to know them by name; you will have parts of the works pointed out to you in a ‘What to look out for’ approach. Also, I will explain some of the inspirations for the works’ origins and look at the music, design and styles of movement. The family matinee is a wonderful chance to get an in-depth look at the works in order to understand more about the UK’s flagship contemporary dance company.”
The family matinee is held on the last day of Rambert’s visit to Sadler’s Wells. The company presents its full programme, which includes Melanie Teall’s L’eveil and Karole Armitage’s Gran Partita, from 14-17 November.
