Miranda Raison will return to Shakespeare’s Globe this summer to revive her role as the notorious queen Anne Boleyn in Howard Brenton’s play, which premiered at the venue last year.
Following a sell-out run in 2010, the Globe made the decision to bring back the production as part of the 2011 The Word Is God season for 22 performances. Raison is joined by previous cast members Anthony Howell and James Garnon and the production will once again be directed by John Dove.
Raison, who is best known for her role in the BBC’s hit drama Spooks, will return to the outdoor venue as the witty and flirtatious fated queen from 8 July. Brenton’s play sees the iconic figure takes on the vicious world of Tudor Court politics while struggling with both her love for her king and husband Henry, and her love for the most controversial ideas of her day. Conspiring with the exiled William Tyndale, Anne treads a dangerous line as they plot to make England Protestant, forever.
As well as starring in Anne Boleyn, Raison also appeared in last year’s Globe production of Henry VIII. Her other stage credits include The Rivals at Salisbury Playhouse and The Man Who Came To Dinner at the Chichester Festival Theatre, but the actress is best known for her work on screen which includes Married Single Other, Plus One and comedy Sugartown, which will be shown on the BBC later this year.
Anne Boleyn plays in rep from 8 July to 21 August.
