The Railway Children’s Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis must be riding on a flexible ticket at the King’s Cross Theatre as the show has announced its steam train has once again delayed its London departure, with the hit show extending into 2017.
To celebrate the extension, which adds a further three months to the hugely popular family drama’s run and takes booking to 8 January, The Railway Children’s producers have announced they will be offering 5,000 seats at just £10 for selected performances from October to January, which can booked via the show’s official website.
Sophie Ablett, Matt Jessup and Beth Lilly will continue in their roles as the titular youngsters who find themselves uprooted to rural Yorkshire from their London home when their father is mysteriously taken away. There they befriend the local railway porter, Perks, and embark on a magical journey of discovery, friendship and adventure. But the mystery remains – where is Father, and is he ever coming back?
Cast regular Martin Barrass returns to the production to once again take on the classic story’s iconic stationmaster Mr Perks from the end of the month. The actor played the role in the show’s original 2009 York Theatre Royal run before Mike Kenny’s imaginative stage adaptation transferred to London for a triumphant premiere. In 2011 the show won an Olivier Award for its second run before it found a home at the specially created King’s Cross Theatre – complete with railway track and platforms – in 2015.
