The hugely successful family hit The Railway Children has extended its London stage journey until 3 January 2016, adding an extra four months to its run.
Following Mike Kenny’s immersive play’s Olivier Award-winning London premiere in 2011, The Railway Children returned triumphantly at the beginning of this year, finding a new home at the purpose built King’s Cross Theatre.
Housed right next to real-life train station King’s Cross St Pancras, audiences are invited to take their seats either side of a railway track where a live steam locomotive takes centre stage to bring E. Nesbit’s classic story to life.
Commenting on the show’s extended life, the producers said: “We have been completely overwhelmed by the way audiences have responded to this incredible production. Show after show they delight in this beautifully told story, with not a dry eye in the house!”
While theatregoers will now have longer to watch actors including Andrew Dunn, Caroline Harker and Louise Calf recreate the famous tale of three children whose lives change dramatically when they are forced to move from London to rural Yorkshire after their father mysteriously disappears, the producers were most excited about one cast member performing for longer in particular, confirming: “We are delighted to say that, after some hard negotiation, the most demanding leading lady in the West End will be extending with the show – all 60 tonnes of her!”
