Mamma Mia! will celebrate its new home at the Novello theatre with a gala performance in support of Children In Need this September.
Taking place on 12 September, less than a week after the hit show moves from the Prince of Wales theatre where it has been playing for more than 13 years, the gala performance will include special guest appearances by BBC Radio 2 presenters Vanessa Feltz, Anneka Rice and Penny Smith, alongside a celebrity packed audience.
Judy Craymer’s hugely popular musical features songs by legendary group ABBA and tells the story of 20 year old Sophie who decides to find out the true identity of her absent father before she gets married.
The Greek island set-family tale features songs including Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You and Take A Chance On Me, and stars Sally Ann Triplett as Sophie’s mother Donna, who finds herself in a complicated situation when three former boyfriends unexpectedly arrive on the island.
Mamma Mia! is just one of many West End shows supporting the BBC’s charity for disadvantaged children. Last week the 2012 line-up for the charity’s annual Pop Goes The Musical was announced with singers Geri Halliwell, Alexandra Burke, Blue, Macy Gray and Stooshe set to take to the stage in special curtain calls at Singin’ In The Rain, Jersey Boys, Les Misérables and Thriller Live this autumn.
