RAD summer courses for young dancers

Published 2 February 2012

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) has announced forthcoming workshops for budding young dancers taking place this summer.

The prestigious academy is offering two different courses; Summer School for students aged 8 to 18 years old, and the Performance Course for dancers aged 12 and older. Both will run over July and August at RAD’s headquarters in London.

Summer School runs over six days offering an exciting, energetic chance to work with professional teachers and learn a range of dance styles, as well as develop existing skills. Students will also have the chance to meet fellow young dancers from different countries and see a West End show as part of the course.

RAD offers a specially tailored Summer School course for younger children aged four to seven years old. Run over five days, the children participate in two short ballet and creative dance classes a day. Each session follows a particular theme or story, encouraging the students to use their imagination and create an original dance with their teachers.

The Performance Course is designed to offer teenage dancers an insight into how it feels to be part of the creative process and further develop their skills as a dancer and performer. The students will work with professional dancers and teachers and, following the two week course, have the opportunity to perform two public performances in RAD’s Genée studio.

Full details of all courses RAD offers and information on how to book can be found on the academy’s website www.rad.org.uk
