Amanda Holden has a schedule that would rival the Royals; filming Britain’s Got Talent, rehearsing for Cinderella, which opens at the Palladium in just over two weeks – we can’t wait – and once 2017 is under way she’ll return to the West End in tap shoes for Stepping Out. Despite the schedule, we caught up with Amanda to talk all things Christmas and, of course, Cinderella.
How does it feel to be performing in the West End’s first pantomime in nearly 30 years?
It’s one of the main reasons I agreed to do it, an iconic theatre with a great cast, it’s going to be something very special.
What is it about pantomime, as a form of theatre, that you think British people love?
The fact that there is no fourth wall, and that they see people they recognise being very silly (perhaps showing who they really are). I also love the fact that for many it’s their first time in a theatre, and if a positive experience, will entice them back to see a different production.
What was the first pantomime that you watched?
Mother Goose in Southsea.
What is your ‘Golden Buzzer’ moment in the show?
The ball!
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Depends what production, for Stepping Out for instance, I like to do one of my speeches (about coffee!) to any poor stagehand that happens to be walking past me. And if I don’t do it, I feel like it’s going to be bad luck!
