The UK Government’s decision for a second lockdown will mean theatre closures across the UK from 5 November until 2 December.
Kenny Wax, Producer of Six the Musical said: “We tested the entire SIX Company on Saturday ahead of rehearsals which were due to start this morning at 10am. All the tests were negative.
“At 11.30 am on Sunday morning we sent an email to the cast, musicians, creatives and technicians (including the press, marketing, ticketing and admin teams) to say that due to the announcement last night we would not be able to start rehearsal today. We followed that up with a Zoom call at 6.45pm last night so that they had an opportunity to hear it first hand from the Producers and answer any questions. There were company members who had booked and paid for accommodation in London in readiness for the restart. Ultimately, we felt there was no value in rehearsing for 3 days and then suspending for an indefinite number of weeks.
“The load into the theatre of the lighting and sound equipment was also planned to start today. We are continuing with that process. The set will arrive on Wednesday. We are hoping to receive confirmation from DCMS that in line with Stages 1 and 2 of the performing arts roadmap that we can continue the fit up through to its completion and restart rehearsals a fortnight before the lifting of the lockdown. The timing of that announcement is essential as would be a further extension to the lockdown which we also acknowledge is a possibility. When restrictions are lifted, we will be ready to go, providing employment, entertaining our loyal fans, giving hope for a brighter 2021, and lighting up Shaftesbury Avenue once again after its prolonged closure.”
Six the Musical is scheduled to reopen at the Lyric Theatre from 5 December, provided there are no further changes to the current lockdown dates.
