Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright, best known for playing Ginny Weasley in the incredibly successful series of films about the boy wizard, will become the latest of the franchise’s younger stars to take to the London stage when she appears in The Moment Of Truth at the Southwark Playhouse.
The actress, who appeared in every one of the hit films, will play The Girl in Peter Ustinov’s tale of toppling governments, war and propaganda, which will run from 26 June until 20 July (press night 28 June).
Ustinov’s play is set in a republic on the verge of collapse. Of its government, only its unpopular Prime Minister and naïve Foreign Minister remain in a cabinet office where toy soldiers mask the reality of war, as the invading army inches closer.
Former Likely Lad Rodney Bewes also stars in the production, playing The Marshall, in a cast that also includes Mark Carey, Callum Coates, Toni Kanal, Damian Quinn, Miles Richardson and Daniel Souter.
Wright follows in the footsteps of former Potter co-stars including Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) who starred in Our Boys, Jessie Cave (Lavendar Brown) who appeared in Arcadia, Katie Leung (Cho Chang) who took to the stage in Wild Swans, Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas) who has been seen in both Antigone and Timon Of Athens at the National Theatre and Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) who can currently be seen in The Hothouse. In fact, when Wright is starring in Southwark, her on screen love interest Daniel Radcliffe, who grew up before our movie-watching eyes playing Harry Potter, will lead the cast of The Cripple Of Inishmaan as part of the Michael Grandage Company’s season at the Noël Coward theatre.
