Polka theatre presents a brand new play for children this summer, The Monster Under The Bed, which runs from 6 June to 25 July.
The Monster Under The Bed, written by Kevin Dyer, was presented by Polka theatre in a rehearsed reading at last year’s New Visions New Voices, a prestigious international festival of new plays for children, held in Washington DC.
Now a fully staged production premieres at the Wimbledon-based children’s theatre, suitable for theatregoers aged six and over.
A comic play about friendship and facing up to your fears, The Monster Under The Bed tells the story of Ben, who has got a big problem (or two). His best friend Vince has stolen his binoculars, his Dad is far, far away and there’s a monster under his bed. So one morning the monster goes to school instead, promising Ben he will get those binoculars back for him. But when Ben swaps places with the underbed monster, his life and his school are turned upside down.
The Monster Under The Bed is directed by the Artistic Director of Polka theatre, Jonathan Lloyd, who commented: “As a director, I’m excited about this show. As Polka’s Artistic Director, I’m incredibly proud of it. It’s everything we want a Polka play to be – a visual treat and a great adventure that will thrill and move you and make you laugh out loud.”
Currently playing at Polka theatre is The Jolly Postman, which closes on 9 May.
