The Old Red Lion theatre’s West End transfer of The Play That Goes Wrong has gone against its name, proving such a success that it has extended its run at the Trafalgar Studio 2 by an additional two weeks.
A fast-paced new comedy focusing on the trials and tribulations of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they stage 1920s murder mystery Murder At Haversham Manor, The Play That Goes Wrong will now play at the intimate Whitehall venue to 1 June.
With director Chris, the arrogant head of the drama society, as the dynamic Inspector, wannabe actress Sandra and doting Max struggling opposite each other as the romantic interests and actor Dennis still unable to pronounce ‘façade’, an hour of delicately timed disaster ensues as actors get knocked out, the play gets stuck on a loop and the set begins to disintegrate.
Directed by Mark Bell, the production’s cast includes Henry Shields, Henry Lewis, Joshua Elliott, Jonathan Sayer, Lotti Maddox, Dave Hearn, Nancy Wallinger and Rob Falconer.
The production, which is just one in a string of shows to transfer from the Islington venue, will be followed by Brendan Cowell’s Happy New starring Lisa Dillon, which plays at the Trafalgar Studio 2 from 4 to 29 June.
