Grammy award-winning artist PJ Harvey will compose an original score for Ian Rickson’s production of The Nest at the Young Vic from 28 October to 26 November.
Premiering at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast from 1-22 October before a London run in the Young Vic’s Maria theatre, Harvey will reunite with Rickson following previous collaborations including Hamlet at the Young Vic in 2011 and the Old Vic’s production of Electra in 2014. As the only artist to have been awarded the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize twice, we expect a score from Harvey to match the sharp relevance of this urgent and timely two-hander. James Johnston (Gallon Drunk, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds) will also collaborate on the recording of the original score.
In this new translation by Olivier Award-winning writer Conor McPherson (The Weir), Caoilfhionn Dunne and Laurence Kinlan will make their Young Vic debuts in the main roles of Martha and Kurt as soon to be parents whose decisions to ensure a comfortable start in life for their child threatens both their family and the entire community. Dunne follows previous productions with McPherson including The Night Alive and Fathers And Sons, both at the Donmar Warehouse, and Kinlan’s previous credits include The Playboy Of The Western World and The Plough And The Stars at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
