Last night, The Phantom Of The Opera became the first musical to win the fiercely competitive West End Eurovision for two years in a row!
Stars from all around the West End gathered at the Adelphi Theatre to compete in this year’s competition. The casts of Dinsey’s Aladdin, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Follies, Mamma Mia!, Only Fools And Horses, The Phantom Of The Opera, and Wicked all took to the stage to perform hit songs from past Eurovisions in the hopes of earning votes from the judging panel and the live audience.
Performing Grande Amore – the Italian entry at the 2015 2015 Eurovision Song Contest – The Phantom of the Opera earned 88 votes which saw them take the overall win. Phantom also won the new Outstanding Gorgeousness prize, judged by award-winning Set and Costume Designer Fly Davies and Jamie Campbell, whose story inspired Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
The Best Creative prize – judged by Bonnie Langford, Wayne Sleep, Tim Vincent, and Amber Davies – went to the cast of Wicked who performed Ukraine’s 2004 entry Wild Dances. The third trophy of the night, the Best Ident, voted for by public text vote, was awarded to Everyone’s Talking About Jamie.
All money raised from last night’s event will go to MAD Trust. The Trust works with its partners to support those living with or affected by HIV and AIDS both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
