Rupert Penry-Jones, Joseph Millson and Nick Blood have joined the cast of Michael Wynne’s The Priory, which plays in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from 19 November to 9 January (press night 26 November).
Wynne’s comedy, which also stars Jessica Hynes, Alastair Mackenzie, Charlotte Riley and Rachael Stirling, takes a microscope to the modern dilemmas faced by thirty-somethings as it follows a group of close friends who gather together to celebrate New Year’s Eve at a country retreat, culminating in one fearsome party and some surprising resolutions.
Penry-Jones may be best known for playing Adam in several series of spy drama Spooks. However he has previously appeared on stage in London in The Play About The Baby and Chips With Everything at the National Theatre, Don Carlos and Timon Of Athens for the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican and Dangerous Corner at the Garrick theatre. In addition to Spooks, his television career includes Persuasion, North Square, Casanova, Whitechapel and The Thirty Nine Steps.
Millson comes to The Priory following his performance in Judgment Day at the Almeida theatre. His London stage credits also include Every Good Boy Deserves Favour at the National Theatre, Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat at the Royal Court, Cinderella at the Old Vic and Much Ado About Nothing for the RSC at the Novello theatre.
Completing the cast is recent LAMDA graduate Blood, whose work includes Old Vic New Voices/Theatre503 Award-winning play Inches Apart, which he co-devised and appeared in, as well as new BBC comedy series Material Girl.
The Priory plays at the Royal Court following Enron, which ends its run on 31 October before it transfers to the West End early next year.
