Downton Abbey star Penelope Wilton will return to the West End for the first time in five years when the Chichester Festival Theatre production of Taken At Midnight transfers to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2015.
The debut play by Mark Hayhurst, in which Wilton plays the mother of German lawyer Hans Litten who put Hitler on the witness stand in pre-war Nazi Germany, runs at the Haymarket from 15 January until 14 March.
Maternal love is put centre stage in Hayhurst’s drama as Litten’s mother confronts the Nazis who have imprisoned her son, putting herself at huge risk.
Wilton, last seen on the West End stage starring opposite Jude Law in Hamlet, is joined in the production by Martin Hutson, Allan Corduner, Pip Donaghy, John Light, Mike Grady, David Yelland, Marc Antolin, Christopher Hogben and Dermot McLaughlin.
The latest transfer from Chichester will open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket following the run of the current hit comedy Great Britain. The satire on press, politics and the police is booking to 10 January 2015.
