Paisley Day is Globe’s Petruchio

Published 2 March 2012

Simon Paisley Day will return to the London stage this summer to play the oft-dislikeable role of Petruchio in The Taming Of The Shrew.

The actor, who most recently played tricked servant Malvolio in the National Theatre production of Twelfth Night, will star opposite Samantha Spiro in Shakespeare’s controversial comedy.

In The Taming Of The Shrew, Paisley Day – whose other London credits include Private Lives, The 39 Steps and the National Theatre production of Anything Goes, which he likened to a “champagne enema”  – plays a man whose sole purpose is to break the spirit of Spiro’s strong-willed Kate.

Paisley Day and Spiro will be joined at the Globe this summer by Brid Brennan, Nigel Cooke, Sam Cox, Brendan O’Hea, David Hargreaves, Graham Butler, Giles Cooper, Matthew Flynn, Beruce Khan, James Lailey, Paul Rider, Olivia Ross, Chris Starkie, Lisa Stevenson and Roger Watkins, who complete the cast of the Jamie Parker-led Henry V.

As previously announced, Parker returns to Shakespeare’s Globe to continue the tale of Prince Hal, who he played in the 2010 productions of Henry IV Part I and II. The history play will tour the UK from April before opening at the Globe in June.
