Eileen Page will revive the one-woman show Eleanor Of Aquitaine at the Jermyn Street Theatre for a week this January.
First performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1999, the show has toured internationally and returns to the Jermyn Street Theatre after a sell-out run in 2005.
Written by Catherine Muschamp, the play tells the story of a woman of extraordinary courage, beauty and iron will. First Queen of France, then Queen of England and mother to two English Kings, Muschamp explores the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine, a formidable woman who witnessed and influenced some of the Middle Ages’ most dramatic events, including the murder of Thomas Becket.
Page’s career spans 65 years and includes work on stage, television and film. The veteran actress has worked extensively for the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as appearing in Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, Me And My Girl and The Boy Friend in the West End. Her television appearances include Maigret, in which she starred alongside Michael Gambon, and Absolute Hell with Judi Dench and Bill Nighy.
Eleanor Of Aquitaine runs from 10 to 15 January at the Jermyn Street Theatre.
