Roger Lloyd Pack, Paul Chahidi and James Garnon have joined Mark Rylance in Shakespeare’s Globe’s productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III this summer.
Pack, who is best known for playing Trigger in TV comedy Only Fools And Horses and Owen in The Vicar Of Dibley, makes his debut at the venue playing the Duke Of Buckingham in Richard III and Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night. Though best known for his screen work, which also includes films Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Made In Dagenham, Pack has a plethora of stage credits to his name, among them The Winterling at the Royal Court and The Dark at the Donmar Warehouse.
London stage regular Chahidi will play Hastings and Tyrell in Richard III, and Maria in Twelfth Night, while Garnon, who recently played King James in the Globe’s touring production of Anne Boleyn, will play Richmond and the Duchess of York in Richard III, and Fabian in Twelfth Night.
The trio of performers join former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe Rylance, Stephen Fry, Johnny Flynn and Samuel Barnett in the all-male company for the shows that sees the iconic London venue revert to the style adopted during Rylance’s reign. The productions will take an original practices approach to the plays, using techniques that would have been used in Shakespeare’s time to create clothing, music and dance.
Richard III runs at the Bankside venue from 14 July to 13 October, with Twelfth Night joining the repertoire from 22 September to 14 October. Following their run at the alfresco venue, both productions will transfer into the West End, playing at the Apollo theatre from November.
