What’s it all about?
A mysterious masked man and a singer with extraordinary talent. This is arguably Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most loved musical; romantic, frightening, powerful and dramatic with a glossy coating of sparkling costumes, stunning sets and, of course, that all-important gondola.
Based on Gaston Leroux’s gothic novel, the musical conjures the magical story of the Phantom and his persuasive powers that cast a spell over the beautiful singer Christine Daaé. And trust us, we’re getting goose bumps just thinking about the arias that ensue…
Casting coup
An incredible line-up of musical theatre stars have taken on the demanding roles of the Phantom and his muse, but none more impressive than the original pairing – the legendary Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman.
Fascinating facts
There are a humungous 230 costume changes in every performance of The Phantom Of The Opera, putting even a Beyoncé concert to shame!
Olivier Awards history
Plenty. Following the show’s premiere in 1986 it was awarded the much coveted Best New Musical Award, while Crawford took Best Actor in a Musical. Phantom is also the first ever recipient of the Audience Award, triumphing in 2002.
They say…
“The West End has top class theatre. The quality of productions here is always the best. That’s how we feel about it from abroad [Gerónimo Rauch is from Argentina]. If you want to watch good theatre just go to the West End.
“The Oliviers is a big moment for theatre. We are all hoping to perform at the Oliviers….hopefully this year. The fan base is very important for us. Hopefully they [will] vote for us.” The Phantom Of The Opera’s Gerónimo Rauch
We say…
Classics never go out of style, and you’d be hard pushed to find more of a classic than this legendary show. As powerful as when it opened almost three decades ago, we’d put good money on it still being here in another 30 years’ time.
The Phantom Of The Opera is booking at Her Majesty’s Theatre until 26 September. You can buy tickets through us here.
