English National Ballet is to return to the London Coliseum for the festive season with a revival of Wayne Eagling’s The Nutcracker and Strictly Gershwin.
Eagling’s version of the classic fairytale ballet, which premiered in 2010, sets the magical tale in Edwardian London.
ENB has staged the story of Clara and her most fantastical of adventures every Christmas since 1950, with Artistic Director Eagling’s production being the 10th version staged by the company. The Sugar Plum Fairy, along with all the other enchanted characters, will dance at the London Coliseum from 8 to 30 December.
Strictly Gershwin (4 to 15 January) is a very different production, taking inspiration from the music of George Gershwin. Playing for the first time at the London Coliseum, it features 68 dancers performing to Gershwin’s timeless classics and conjuring the glamorous Hollywood era of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Originally created for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008, the production has been reworked in 2011 and will tour the UK this autumn before coming to the Coliseum.
Prior to English National Ballet’s arrival at the Coliseum this winter, English National Opera presents an eclectic season including productions of Der Rosenkavalier, The Marriage Of Figaro and Tosca.
