The Commitments has announced it will conclude its two year run in the West End this November.
The page to stage adaptation has been entertaining audiences with its classic soul songs and inspirational story at the Palace Theatre since October 2013 and is now set to play its final performance on 1 November.
The show was adapted for the stage by Booker Prize-winning literary legend Roddy Doyle from his hugely successful novel and the subsequent cult film of the same name.
Directed by West End favourite Jamie Lloyd, it features a sensational line-up of songs including I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Knock On Wood, Try A Little Tenderness and Mustang Sally to tell the story of a group of unlikely Irish misfits who come together to create the best soul band Dublin has ever produced.
While the show will come to the end of its London life a respectable two years and 1,000 plus performances after premiering, The Commitments has the promise of a further life with an extensive UK and Ireland tour planned.
Commenting on the announcement, the musical’s producer Phil McIntyre said: “We’ve had a great run at the Palace Theatre and we now look forward to bringing the people’s musical to people across the UK & Ireland with our 2017 tour.”
