NotMoses sets casting in stone

First Published 19 January 2016, Last Updated 20 January 2016

Greg Barnett will star in the title role of biblical comedy NotMoses, the world premiere of prolific film writer Gary Sinyor’s debut play, at the Arts Theatre this March.

Playing from 10 March to 14 May, the quirky comedy tells the story of a crying baby who is plucked from his basket by a princess only to be dumped back in the Nile when she sees a nicer little offering: Moses.

While Prince Moses studies accountancy at Pharaoh’s court, the rejected NotMoses instead grows up to be a disgruntled slave. But when both men are forced to flee into the Sinai desert, suddenly they’re making kebabs on the same burning bush and finding themselves leading the Jews out of bondage and into a land full of cows and bees.

The satirical comedy promises to answer all those burning ethical questions you’ve been mulling over for years and enable you to experience the wonder of all 10 plagues (even if they are mainly offstage).

Barnett follows theatre credits including These Trees Are Made Of Blood for Southwark Playhouse and Therese Raquin at the Park Theatre to lead the cast as NotMoses with Thomas Nelstrop (Romeo And Juliet, English Touring Theatre) taking on the role of the rather luckier Moses.

The pair will be joined in the cast by television regular Dana Haqjoo (Citizen Khan, The Omid Djalili Show, Emmerdale), Archers star Jasmine Hyde, Joe Morrow, who returns to the Arts Theatre following Seussical The Musical, Antonia Davies (The Barrier, Park Theatre), Leon Stewart (The Colour Of Justice, Tricycle Theatre) and Niv Petel, who makes his London stage debut in the production.

NotMoses will follow Ruby Wax’s Sane New World into the Arts Theatre. The comedian, writer and mental health campaigner’s one-woman show starts previews at the Leicester Square venue today.
