A new teacher’s been appointed for School Of Rock – The Musical: Hear’Say star, and stage and screen actor, Noel Sullivan will lead the West End cast, playing Dewey Finn from 19 August.
Taking on the role of the downtrodden, wannabe rock star, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school, School Of Rock – The Musical adds another name to Noel’s impressive rafter of West End credits, which includes Galileo in We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre and Danny Zuko in Grease at the Piccadilly.
Noel will join an adult cast which includes Laura Tebbutt as Rosalie Mullins and Rebecca LaChance as Patty Di Marco. Mark Anderson will take over the role of Ned Schneebly from 8 October, and Jake Sharp will play Dewey Finn at certain performances.
Of the news, Noel said: “I look forward to not only taking on one of my most challenging roles to date but also working alongside some of the most talented kids in the country. I’ve been in some great bands before but this one is really going to take some beating!”
Based on the hit film starring Jack Black, School Of Rock – The Musical follows Dewey and the unorthodox education he gives his pupils in the power of rock, transforming them into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping and mind-blowing band in the process.
The show features music from the movie alongside new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Glenn Slater. It is currently booking at the Gillian Lynne Theatre until 5 January 2020.
