Nikki Davis-Jones will turn a Wicked shade of green this autumn when she takes on the role of Elphaba in the hit West End musical.
The actress, who is already well acquainted with the witch’s not so wicked ways in her current role as Elphaba in the touring production, will join the London cast on 27 October alongside Liza Sadovy and Philip Childs as Madame Morrible and Doctor Dillamond respectively.
Davis-Jones brings her acclaimed performance as the musical’s much-loved misunderstood witch to the Apollo Victoria Theatre having previously appeared on the capital’s stage in LIFT at the Soho Theatre, Little Women at the Playhouse Theatre and Mamma Mia! at the Prince Of Wales Theatre.
Her forthcoming co-star Sadovy returns to the London stage following performances in Sunday In The Park With George at the Menier Chocolate Factory and in the West End, the West End production of La Bête and Company at the Donmar Warehouse. Childs boasts performances in National Theatre productions of People and The Habit Of Art as well as The Hired Man in the West End.
The trio will replace Willemijn Verkaik, Sue Kelvin and Paul Clarkson in the London production, which has now been entertaining audiences with its tale of two sorcery students and the untold story of their adventures in the land of Oz for almost eight years.
Savannah Stevenson, Jeremy Taylor, Martyn Ellis, Sam Lupton and Katie Rowley Jones will continue in their current roles.
Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maquire and inspired by L Frank Baum’s classic tale The Wizard Of Oz, Wicked features hit songs inclusion Defying Gravity, Popular, The Wizard And I and For Good, and has been seen by nearly six million people in the West End.
The musical, which will celebrate its eight birthday in September this year, is now booking at the Apollo Victoria Theatre until 25 April 2015.
