Just when Bradley Wiggins thought he couldn’t get any more spoiled, Monty Python’s Spamalot introduces a special bonus for any knights (or any of us normal people masquerading as sirs).
Bona fide knights of the realm who can prove their credentials – including, of course, Sirs McKellen, Stewart and Branagh – can see the guffaw-inducing musical free of charge.
Those of us, male or female, whose efforts have yet to be recognised by the Queen (nudge, nudge) can still take advantage of this theatrical honour by turning up at the Playhouse theatre one hour in advance of the show dressed in our finest knightly outfits. That, we’re informed, means at least four items of clothing or Round Table must-have accessories from a helmet, a hood, chainmail, armour, a tunic, a tabard, a cape, gauntlets or a shield. Other suitably Arthurian outfits may be accepted at the discretion of the sartorially sound Spamalot management.
The hit musical, which currently stars Stephen Tompkinson as King Arthur and Anna-Jane Casey as The Lady Of The Lake, is based on the much-loved film Monty Python And The Holy Grail. It tells the story of the legendary king’s search for a mythical cup, featuring songs including original movie track Knights Of The Round Table, new song Find Your Grail and Python favourite Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.
