Nat Sweeney will become the 41st young performer to take on the iconic role of Billy Elliot when he takes to the Victoria Palace Theatre stage tonight as he joins the cast of Billy Elliot The Musical for the first time.
The 12-year-old from Birmingham, who boasts a love of gymnastics alongside his ballet skills, joins the musical following his professional debut with the acclaimed dance company New Adventures in Matthew Bourne’s Lord Of The Flies.
Sweeney will join current Billys, Brodie Donougher, Thomas Hazelby, Ollie Jochim and Bradley Perret who alternate the leading and demanding role in Lee Hall’s much loved story of a boy who prefers ballet to boxing.
Set against the backdrop of the 1984/85 miners’ strike, Billy’s passion for dance goes against everything his northern father knows, but his mission for success takes both his family and the whole community on a life-changing journey.
Directed by Stephen Daldry with music by the legendary musician Elton John, Billy Elliot The Musical has been wowing audiences in the West End for more than 10 years and has now been seen by a staggering 10 million people worldwide with productions having played on five continents.
The current West End cast includes musical theatre star Ruthie Henshall and Deka Walmsley, alongside an incredible cast of talented youngsters.
