Multi-award-winner Robert Icke is returning to the Almeida Theatre this October with a brand new production of Henrik Ibsen’s The Wild Duck. It’s Robert’s first show at the Almeida since his sell-out run of Hamlet starring Andrew Scott in 2017.
As the Almeida Associate Director, Robert is well-known for his outstanding adaptations of classic plays. His recent triumphs include Mary Stuart, Uncle Vanya, and Orestia. He also staged the award-winning 1984 which received two West End runs in addition to its run at the Almeida.
The Wild Duck is a tragicomedy about a man who returns home after a self-imposed exile and is determined to expose the lies of those surrounding him. Robert will create a new version of this masterpiece about the nature of truth. It will have design by Bunny Christie, lighting by Elliot Griggs and sound by Tom Gibbons.
In addition to Robert’s new production, the Almeida Theatre also announced a one-day Almeida For Free festival taking place on Saturday 27 October. It follows the previously successful Almeida For Free promotions during the runs of Summer And Smoke and Hamlet. The event includes a matinee performance made exclusively free to 25s and under, a Q&A with Robert Icke and workshops run by theatre practitioners.
The Wild Duck will open to previews on 15 October with its opening night on 23 October. The run will conclude on 1 December. Casting is yet to be announced so keep your eyes peeled.
Priority Booking opens at 10am on Tuesday 7 August for Bronze, Silver and Gold Friends and to Almeida Friends at 10am on Thursday 9 August.
