A third instalment of the much-loved family show Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain will take to the West End stage this summer with the promise that it’s the most horrible yet.
Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain – Part 3! will play daytime performances at the Garrick Theatre from 25 July to 5 September alongside another returning hit popular with families, Let It Be.
Written and directed by Neal Foster, the brand new show will be packed full of a new set of rude rulers and other crazy characters from Britain’s colourful historical past.
Foster and Anthony Spargo, both of whom have brought gruesome gore to the London stage in previous versions of show, are the two performers tasked with portraying the menagerie of monarchs, dukes and Victorians.
This time, family audiences will be able to clap along with crazy King Charles, make a great escape from the First World War, party with the Puritans, vomit with the vile Victorians and light up their lives with the great fire of London.
In keeping with the tradition of Parts 1 and 2 in making history fun and educational for young theatregoers, the new show will allow children to discover whether King John is a martyr for the Magna Carta, learn about Admiral Nelson and see whether the Duke of Wellington gets the boot.
The production will mark the seventh West End season of the ever popular Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain series and follows in the footsteps of Part 2, which played at the Garrick Theatre during the Christmas season.
Horrible Histories’ 2015 outing marks the gruesome and gory series’ 10th anniversary and as part of its momentous milestone the company behind the stage productions, Birmingham Stage Company, will present nine Horrible Histories productions across the country and internationally during the 52 months of this year.
As part of the decade anniversary there will also be a special gala performance on 27 July when all three of the Barmy Britain productions will play across one day. Taking place at the Garrick Theatre, the special performances of the popular series will feature cameo appearances from Horrible Histories’ author Terry Deary and illustrator Martin Brown.
