TV Peter Pan Charlie Rowe, star of Sky miniseries Neverland, is to join the previously announced Henry Goodman in the Old Vic production of Terence Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy.
The young performer, who has also appeared in hit films The Golden Compass and The Boat That Rocked, plays the title role of Ronnie Winslow, with Deborah Findlay, Naomi Frederick and Nick Hendrix completing his stage family.
London stage regular Findlay (Grace Winslow) returns to Waterloo after appearing a short stroll down the road at the Young Vic in The Glass Menagerie, while rising star Frederick (Catherine Winslow) previously appeared in Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It at Shakespeare’s Globe. Hendrix (Dickie Winslow) recently played Nicholas Bennett in What The Butler Saw.
Rattigan’s drama, which premiered in 1946, tells the story of 14-year-old Ronnie Winslow who is sent home from naval college after being accused of stealing a postal order. His father, determined to prove his son’s innocence, employs renowned barrister Sir Robert Morton and begins a courageous battle to clear his son’s name.
Sia Berkeley, Stephen Joseph, Wendy Nottingham, Richard Teverson, Jay Villiers and Peter Sullivan as Morton complete the cast, which will be directed by Lindsay Posner.
The Winslow Boy, which opens next month, sees the historic venue return to the work of Rattigan following the success of 2011’s Cause Célèbre, which starred Anne-Marie Duff and was directed by The Bodyguard director Thea Sharrock. It follows the hit transfer of Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Kiss Me, Kate, which runs until 2 March.
