Neilson creates Royal Court revue

First Published 10 July 2014, Last Updated 10 July 2014

Writers Anthony Neilson and Robin French will create a brand new late night revue show for the Royal Court Theatre this summer featuring work submitted by talented staff members from all departments of the theatre, whether they be a former Royal Court playwright or member of the bar staff.

Entitled The Get Out, the revue show will play from 31 July to 2 August in the theatre’s intimate Jerwood Theatre Upstairs space and feature anything from stories to sketches, satire to off-kilter comedy.

The two playwrights will spend a week working with six actors to put together the eclectic mix of entertainment created by Royal Court Theatre staff. Anyone who has worked at the theatre in any role is invited to submit submissions from any genre and style of performance.

Speaking about the project, Neilson, whose work including recent productions of Narrative, Get Santa! And Relocated has been performed at the theatre, explained: “There is no restrictions on form or content. Anything is acceptable in any medium – songs, monologues, puppetry – if it can be performed on stage, we’ll consider it for inclusion. Our aim is to create a revue show that is unique in tone, innovative in form and reflective of the Royal Court Theatre.”

The Get Out, which follows the premiere of Chris Goode’s topical Men In The Cities into the theatre, will be suitable for audiences aged 14 and older.
