Fans of James Bond, Doctor Who and Downton Abbey, get excited: the National Youth Theatre have today announced that initial casting for their 60th anniversary gala night will include Matt Smith, Timothy Dalton and Hugh Bonneville, alongside actresses Daisy Lewis, Jessica Hynes and Gina McKee.
Taking place at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre on 18 September at 7pm, 30 star alumni will take to the stage alongside 90 members in a gala performance entitled The Story Of Our Youth, celebrating the diamond anniversary of the pioneering body for youth theatre in Britain. Further star names are still to be announced.
Led by Artistic Director and Chief Executive Paul Roseby, The Story Of Our Youth will showcase the best of the last 6 decades of British youth culture, racing through the years with scenes from the NYT archive, choreographed numbers, new alumni sketches and no shortage of surprise appearances from famous faces around the world.
Over the course of 60 sparkling years, the National Youth Theatre has advocated free alternatives to formal theatre training to over 100,000 young people, and boasts an alumni body which includes the likes of Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Daniel Day Lewis.
