David Eldridge’s new play Beginning will transfer to the West End’s Ambassadors Theatre in January 2018, following its smash-hit run at the National Theatre.
Beginning features a story we can all identify with – it’s the early hours of the morning, and the last two stragglers at a party keep talking over one more drink. The flat’s in a complete mess, and so are they. But who knows what could happen?
A tender and funny look at those fragile first moments of opening up, taking a chance, and risking your heart, the world premiere production of Beginning has won critical acclaim and sold out at the National Theatre Dorfman. Its run there comes to a close on 14 November.

The transfer of the two-hander will see Justine Mitchell (Bodies, Royal Court) and Sam Troughton (King Lear, National Theatre) will reprise their roles in the West End, directed by Polly Findlay (Limehouse, Donmar), and with design by Fly Davis, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Paul Arditti and movement by Naomi Said.
Beginning is written by David Eldridge, whose previous credits include Market Boy for the National Theatre and Holy Warriors at Shakespeare’s Globe.
It will play a strictly limited 10-week West End run at the Ambassadors from Wednesday 15 January 2018, with a press night on Tuesday 23 January. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Monday 20 November.
The Ambassadors Theatre is currently home to popular long-running show Stomp, which will depart London on 7 January 2018.
