The National Theatre has launched a new scheme to offer young people aged 15 to 19 the chance to see productions at the South Bank venue for just £5.
Members of the new Entry Pass scheme are entitled to buy one £5 ticket per production to any show in the National’s three auditoria. The scheme also offers Mates Rates, allowing Entry Pass members to buy tickets for up to two friends to the same performance for £7.50 each. Tickets should be bought direct from the National, in person, by phone or online.
A dedicated website for members also provides news of what’s on, videos, blogs by NT staff, interviews, a discussion forum and interactive polls. Aspiring young theatre critics can apply to attend and review a performance on opening night. The scheme will also offer exclusive tours, talks and workshops. The website, www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/entrypass, is available to view by non-members until the end of April, after which time it will be members-only.
This latest initiative by the National is a further attempt to encourage theatregoing among young people. The South Bank venue already offers cheap tickets to theatregoers of all ages for its productions in the Travelex £10 Season, which currently includes Fram and Major Barbara.
Entry Pass was announced by the National Theatre along with details of its summer productions, which include a new Michael Frayn play, Afterlife, a drama about the Suffragette movement, Her Naked Skin, and the London premiere of The Pitmen Painters, a new play by Lee Hall, writer of Billy Elliot.
