My Perfect Mind returns to Young Vic

Published 17 February 2014

Edward Petherbridge and Paul Hunter will return to the Young Vic in September, reprising their roles in Told By An Idiot’s hit show My Perfect Mind.

Playing from 3 to 27 September, My Perfect Mind blurs moments from Shakespeare’s King Lear with a life-changing chapter in Petherbridge’s life, when a major stroke prevented him from performing one of the most iconic roles in theatre.

The comic play originally played at the Young Vic in spring 2013. Following its run at the Southwark venue Petherbridge was nominated for a UK Theatre Award for his role in the show that was described by The Guardian’s Lyn Gardner as “an exquisite piece of tomfoolery [that] offers a playful and moving exploration of life as an ongoing performance”.

The production returns as part of Told By An Idiot’s 21st birthday celebrations. Since 1993, the innovative theatre company has established an international reputation for its original comic productions.

Speaking about the milestone anniversary, co-Artistic Directors Hayley Carmichael and Hunter said: “We set up Told By An Idiot to explore the human condition by reveling in a style of theatre that is bigger than life. 21 years on, that ambition remains at the heart of our practice. We continue to create diverse shows through a devising process that we remain passionate about, to experiment with form, and to grow from our relationships with a wealth of collaborators and participants. We are thrilled that over the past 21 years, our co-producers and audiences have come to trust our company and its constantly surprising creations.”
