They’ve battled falling sets and missing props in The Play That Goes Wrong, failed to successfully rob a bank in The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, and now the team behind these successful shows, Mischief Theatre, have announced three more productions.
Part of a year-long residency, Mischief Theatre will be moving into the Vaudeville Theatre in September 2019. The first of the three shows will be a comedy called Groan Ups.
Groan Ups will follow a group of characters from childhood to adulthood, focusing on their life when they are the ages of six, thirteen and thirty. The cast will play an unruly classroom of kids, growing into anarchic high school teenagers and then becoming adults trying to make sense of things. The show will leave you asking questions about adulthood, whether we are the same people when we are thirty years old as we are when we are teenagers, if school life determines our future and if we ever really get over our school crush.
The cast includes original company members Dave Hearn, Henry Lewis, Charlie Russell Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields, Nancy Zamit and Bryony Corrigan.
The two other shows in the residency are yet to be announced, so keep your eyes peeled here!
Mischief Theatre was founded by a group of graduates from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and had its early beginnings as an improvised comedy group. Mischief Theatre now performs across the UK and internationally with improvised and original scripted work. Their other production The Comedy About A Bank Robbery is currently at the Criterion Theatre and on a national UK tour whilst The Play That Goes Wrong is also on a national UK tour and has recently completed a two year run on Broadway.
Kenny Wax, producer of Groan Ups and The Play That Goes Wrong, said
“In seven years, to have graduated from a pub theatre filler slot to a three-play 12 month residency at the Vaudeville (courtesy of the tremendously supportive Nica Burns) to sit alongside their two long-running comedies at the Duchess and Criterion, a record-breaking run on Broadway and productions currently running on every continent except Antarctica, the meteoric rise of this extraordinarily talented group of writers and actors seems to know no bounds. As Producers we are delighted to have guided their journey and become their friends.”
This Olivier award-winning team are basically taking over Theatreland and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Groan Ups performances will commence on the 20 September.
