Sadler’s Wells’s annual Family Weekend is back for another year, presenting two great shows for children on 10 and 11 October.
This year’s Family Weekend takes place at two venues; the Peacock theatre hosts the return of hit show Mischief, while the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler’s Wells presents Oogly Boogly.
Following its premiere at Sadler’s Wells in 2008, Mischief returns to delight children aged five and over with its mix of dance, visual art, clowning, puppetry, live music and song. Created by Theatre-Rites and choreographer Arthur Pita, the show features music by European chart-topping musician Charlie Winston.
Oogly Boogly has been created by theatre director Tom Morris – co-director of the National Theatre’s hit show War Horse – and artist Guy Dartnell. A game for eight babies (aged 12 to 18 months) and four adult participants, Oogly Boogly uses the sounds and gestures of simple child’s play to create a simple dance. Parents and carers are invited to relax and enjoy watching their child participating in the performance.
Families can also get up to a spot of mischief themselves by particpating in the Mischief Family Workshops which accompany the show at the Peacock theatre. These hour-long sessions, designed for people with no prior dance experience, allow children and their parents the chance to have a go at some of the creative play in the show. Tickets cost £2 and are bookable through the box office.
