It’s not unusual, around Spring, to be seeking an Easter bunny or too. And this April, national treasures Miriam Margolyes and Griff Rhys Jones will be joining us in asking Where Is Peter Rabbit? – they’ll be lending their voices to the magical family musical, which is transferring to the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Set in the land of Beatrix Potter, where Peter Rabbit and his friends reside, Where Is Peter Rabbit? will be performed in the West End from 3-28 April 2019. It has previously enjoyed hugely popular runs at the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness-On-Windermere, where it premiered in June 2016 to rave reviews.
Offering a heart-warming hug of nostalgia, or the perfect introduction to the classic tales, many of Beatrix Potter’s most famous characters and stories are brought to life on stage in Where Is Peter Rabbit?, which will also feature the voices of Olivier Award winner Griff and BAFTA winner Miriam.
Through intricate puppetry (beautifully handcrafted), delightful dancing and merry songs, the show invites you to meet the likes of the ferocious Mr McGregor, the heady Jemima Puddle-Duck, the plucky Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and, of course, the mischievous Peter Rabbit.
Combining live performance, projection and recording, Where Is Peter Rabbit? is devised by Roger Glossop, directed and choreographed by Sheila Carter, and features music by Steven Edis and lyrics by Sir Alan Ayckbourn.
Griff Rhys Jones said: “The characters and the strange life of animals are so well observed by Beatrix Potter and not just in her beautiful illustrations. I don’t think we cherish things quite as much as we do children’s books, handed down like golden gems; and it’s remarkable to think that these stories are still so loved.”
Miriam Margoyles added: “The characters leap into your heart. There is a directness and a freshness that comes through the text and they will live for all time. It’s a window back into childhood.”
