Musical theatre legend Michael Crawford will return to London theatre later this spring when he leads the cast of The Go-Between’s West End premiere.
The former star of The Phantom Of The Opera and Barnum will play Leo Colston, a man who can no longer hide from the memories of his past, in the show that runs at the Apollo Theatre from 27 May.
Adapted by Goodnight Mister Tom’s David Wood from LP Hartley’s novel, The Go-Between recounts Colston’s memories of the summer of 1900, when he spent the holidays with the family of his school friend at their luxurious country home. When Leo finds himself caught in the middle of a secret love affair the adult world of deceit and manipulation leads to a devastating conclusion.
The music for the show, which has previously been seen at the Royal & Derngate Northampton, Derby Live and West Yorkshire Playhouse, has been written by Richard Taylor.
The Go-Between opens at the Apollo Theatre following the current run of Nell Gwynn. Led by Gemma Arterton, the transfer from Shakespeare’s Globe tells the story Charles II’s mistress, who became one of the first and most acclaimed actresses on the London stage.
