Wicked star Idina Menzel will return to the West End later this year to perform a limited number of solo gigs at the Apollo theatre.
The one-week concert from 8 to 14 October will feature the Tony Award-winning star performing musical theatre numbers and pop songs, including new material and some of her personal favourites, alongside a 25-piece orchestra.
Best known for originating the role of the infamous green witch Elphaba in hit musical Wicked on Broadway and later in the West End, Menzel has recently appeared on screen in American TV series Glee and Disney’s fantasy-musical film Enchanted.
The singer-songwriter, who was last seen on the London stage in a one-off concert at the Royal Albert Hall last year, will arrive in the West End following a tour of North America, before heading north to complete her UK visit in Edinburgh and Manchester.
The Shaftesbury Avenue venue is in for an eclectic few months. It currently plays host to David Suchet and Laurie Metcalfe in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night, which will be followed, in August, by children’s TV favourite Dora The Explorer. Following Menzel’s musical moment it will receive the transfer of the Mark Rylance-led Globe productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III, which will run from November into the new year.
