Caroline Quentin, Andy Nyman and Sharon Horgan are to star in the debut play by Canadian actor Saul Rubinek, Terrible Advice, at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 22 September to 12 November (press night 29 September).
Rubinek, who is probably best known for playing Daphne’s fiancé in long-running sitcom Frasier, tackles the subject of friends and relationships for his first play. Stanley (Stinky to his friends) and Jake are best friends; as are Hedda and Delila. Jake loves Hedda; Stinky loves Delila and plans to marry her until Jake shares some secrets and gives him some advice.
Quentin is a familiar face on screen, with television credits including Men Behaving Badly, Jonathan Creek, Blue Murder and Life Begins. On stage she has appeared in Life After Scandal at the Hampstead theatre, Our Country’s Good in the West End and several productions at the National Theatre and Royal Court.
Nyman is an actor and director whose stage work includes Moonlight And Magnolias at the Tricycle theatre and Ghost Stories at the Lyric Hammersmith and Duke of York’s theatre, a show he also co-wrote. As a director Nyman has collaborated frequently with illusionist Derren Brown, helping to create many of his stage shows.
Horgan is best known for co-writing and starring in comedy series Pulling. Her work also includes appearances on Rob Brydon’s Annually Retentive, Extras and The Pilot Show.
Terrible Advice is directed by Frank Oz, who famously collaborated with Muppets creator Jim Henson to voice many of the show’s characters, including Miss Piggy. As a director his work includes the films Little Shop Of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Stepford Wives.
Currently playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory is Road Show, which runs to 17 September.
