Anthony Rapp – Without You, the one-man show based on actor Rapp’s best-selling memoir about his time starring in Broadway musical Rent, will play the Menier Chocolate Factory from 29 August.
Starring the Broadway actor and star of films including Love And Other Impossible Pursuits, Dazed And Confused and A Beautiful Mind, Steve Maler will direct Rapp in the biographical show which features songs by Rent composer Jonathan Larson and the iconic band R.E.M.
Without You tells the story of Rapp’s early life as an actor, when in 1994 he auditioned for a new musical by Larson, the now legendary Rent. He got the part but tragedy struck when Larson died suddenly the night before the musical’s off-Broadway premiere.
Rapp’s acclaimed story of grief, hope and triumph starts here, with the actor sharing his experiences of being a part of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning show, including his view from the stage during the tribute performance on the night after Larson’s death. Backed by a five-piece rock band, Without You also reveals Rapp’s achingly beautiful relationship with his mother during the turbulent time.
Anthony Rapp – Without You will play at the Menier Chocolate Factory until 15 September and follows Harvey Fierstein ’s Tony Award winning comedy-drama Torch Song Trilogy at the London Bridge venue.
