Forget one new Duchess. The West End has gone all out and gotten itself six new queens. Yaaaaaaaaaas! Today, the cast of the eagerly anticipated Six The Musical has been announced and we’re royally impressed.
The all-female band powering this brand new British musical will be made up of six fierce performers. Each will play one of Henry VIII’s wives to retell their story from their perspective. Jarneia Richard-Noel (The Color Purple) will play Catherine Of Aragon, Millie O’Connell (Thoroughly Modern Millie) will play Anne Boleyn, Natalie Paris (Sunday in the Park with George) will play Jane Seymour, Alexia McIntosh (Godiva Rocks) will play Anna Of Cleves, Aimie Atkinson (In The Heights) will play Katherine Howard, and Maiya Quansah-Breed will play Catherine Parr. Grace Mouat will complete the cast as swing/dance captain.
Remixing 500 years of heartbreak, this celebration of sisterly sass-itude will tell the her-story of these significant women from a whole new point of view.
Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six attracted the attention of producers Kenny Wax and Global Musicals Ltd following a hit run at Edinburgh where it received rave reviews. It played a select number of performances in London earlier this year, and now returns for a fully-fledged run in the West End.
Wendy Barnes of Global Musicals said: “Kenny, Andy and I saw the previous production independently of each other but we were all immediately blown away by the funny, relevant humour and infectious score that these two young talents had created. We are proud to debut their first musical and begin an ambitious and exciting journey for the piece, which is particularly timely as we strive for female equality and empowerment. These women were so much more than history would have us believe.”
Six opens at the Arts Theatre on 30 August 2018.
