Lark Rise To Candleford’s Sandy McDade and Life On Mars’s Liz White are to star in the National Theatre revival of 1603 domestic thriller A Woman Killed With Kindness.
They join Paul Ready in the Katie Mitchell-directed tale of two women fighting for their emotional survival in a rural wilderness dominated by men, money and an unbending morality.
For White, who was most recently seen in the BBC adaptation of The Crimson Petal And The White, A Woman Killed With Kindness marks a return to the National Theatre, where she starred in the double bill of Spring Storm and Beyond The Horizon last year.
McDade also returns to the National, where she last appeared in The Seagull, also directed by Mitchell. Her other National Theatre credits include The House Of Bernarda Alba, A Prayer For Owen Meany and The Good Person Of Sichuan, though currently she is probably best known as Lark Rise To Candleford’s Miss Ellison.
Ready, like McDade, is an NT regular, with productions including London Assurance, Time And The Conways, Major Barbara and Saint Joan to his name, along with the Mitchell-directed Attempts On Her Life and Waves.
A Woman Killed With Kindness, which is written by Thomas Heywood, opens at the National’s Lyttelton theatre in June, where it will play in rep with One Man, Two Guvnors.
