Matilda stays in London for longer

Miss Trunchbull will continue her reign of terror at the Cambridge Theatre for at least another year with the news that Matilda The Musical has extended its booking period until May 2015.

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s hit adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story tells of a bright young girl with loathsome parents and an intimidating headmistress who discovers a special way of dealing with her tormentors.

Capturing the imaginations of audience members young and old, the family production has been seen by more than one million theatregoers since its 2010 premiere at the RSC’s home in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The musical transferred to the West End in October 2011, when it was described by The Guardian’s Lyn

Gardner as an “anarchically joyous, gleefully nasty and ingenious musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story”, before picking up a staggering seven prizes at the Olivier Awards 2012 with MasterCard.

Written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical currently features a cast including Alex Gaumond as Miss Trunchbull, Haley Flaherty as Miss Honey, James Clyde and Kay Murphy as Mr and Mrs Wormwood, and Tasha Chapple, Lollie McKenzie, Lottie Sicilia and Cara Jenkins as the four alternating Matildas.
